May 2010 we signed with the above builder – C R Custom Housing CC – Bramma Construction to do our double storey extensions on the existing property to the value of  R406 000.00 We were asked to pay over R140 000 in June 2010 and again R120 000.00 thereafter. Charl Rossouw the contact person has only managed to lay the concrete deck to date. The amount of damages to our property in the time being is running up and Charl Rossouw has been requested to please finalize the building and begged several occasions to come and see what was happening to our house in terms of the damages and trauma we were going through. His response would be that there’s nothing he can do and never made any attempt to come and see what was going on. We had water running into our house, ceiling in the lounge cracked and a massive piece broke out and rain water freely flowed into the house damaging our lounge suite (dirty water – water damage, the ceiling and cornice broke out in the master bedroom, water came into the room as well damaging the wooden laminated floor edging at the patio door, the water ruined our curtains and bedding and mattress causing markings (concrete mixed with rainwater and grime) on these items which had to be discarded, damage to our swimming pool where a wooden board went into the pool and the corner hit a hole into the pool surface, concrete/cement messed on our paving, cement over the outside walls and on some windows, etc etc etc. We have requested our building plans from Charl Rossouw but the responses are never met so he is fact ignoring our calls. After August 2010 he has not been inside our house apart from begging him to remove the outside rubble in December 2010. We have arranged meetings with him which he has not kept to as well as several calls begging him to come and meet us to resolve the problems of building and damages. This fell on deaf ears. The damages were so extensive that we could not let people into our house for our daughters ‘birthdays, Matric dance, X-Mass etc. Our ceiling in the lounge and kitchen has now sagged extensively due to the concrete deck. This has been carrying on since July 2010(9 – 10 months). The deck has been on since last year (+- now 4 months ago) The building was to accommodate our parents and the money that was paid to him is the money they received for the sale of their property in PE which was part of their entire sale for which they have worked for and therefore we decided as they could not afford to rent or buy we would build onto our existing house to help them. Currently the entire situation is out of hand as it’s effecting my parent’s health and that of mine (Diana). I’ve been ill and had to be put on calming tabs because of the trauma of this entire ordeal. I have 3 kids and another one I am putting through Matric (Not my child). We are all feeling it and it’s getting to a point where the family bond that use to be so strong is being ripped apart. We urgently require the monies paid to Charl to be refunded (interest included as it’s been nearly a year now), the damages to be paid for as well as the building plans and the engineers report to be given to us.

We have paid for the building plans and the scrutiny fees, yet he ignores our request to give us what we paid for. The architect even after much planning has given up and whatever concerns we have raised, he has referred us back to Charl Rossouw.

I’ve taken the liberty to call up the NHBRC registration number on the internet that was on the quotation from CR Customer Housing CC which is in actual fact in the name of Bramma Construction (they’re suspended currently from building) We were not aware of this and I believe in the time we’ve been trying to get him to finish building on our property he was doing other building jobs. Surely the NHBRC should fine C R Custom Housing CC – Charl Rossouw for utilizing the registration of another company – that of his father’s company – Bramma construction – secondly building while that registration is suspended with the NHBRC. -We are at our whits end and hope that there’s someone that can assist us in getting the monies paid back with interest as well as having Charl Rossouw pay for the damages to our property and handing over our approved building plans and Engineers report.

We are hardworking individuals and cannot believe that we’ve been taken for a ride by someone that did previous extensions (bank approved) for us about 8 years ago. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. We are considering taking this to the newspapers as well as approaching Carte Blanche to do a story with regards to irregularities of builders and to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else. We have photos as well as video footage of how the water ran into our house. How we had to suffer though buckets piling up in the lounge and bedroom. Name and shame is in order of the day on this one.
