Complaint Against Boots Opticans in Balham London

I am writing to complain about the service and goods I received at a branch of Boots Opticans in Balham , London Sw12. When I went to collect the glasses they were so much wider than my head you could virtually slide a finger between each side of the frame and my head. I said I was not happy and their proposed solution which was to bend the frame to fit my head. If they had been only a small amount too big this procedure would have appeared acceptable if not desired. However I could not see any way that these glasses would fit for any length of time if at all. When i have adjusted spectacles myself in this way in the past the remedy always lasts for a short time and then they begin to slip off the head on a regular basis.

I asked for my money to be refunded and after an argument this was agreed then this decision was reversed without them actually bothering to tell me that this was the case – leaving me to wait ad infinitum for a telephone call to come and collect the money I had paid in advance.

I was only required to leave a fifty percent deposit abut paid in full instead. When i last spoke with the manger I tried to be reasonable and suggested they simply return the amount I overpaid beyond said deposit but she was totally ignorant and discourteous and refused this and then proceeded to bend the glasses against my wishes – when I assume in theory they were my property. She took them in the back of the shop and when I tried to go with her and protest at her actions she threatened me with the police. Especially since she was a woman I did not feel able to do anything to prevent her bending the glasses in case I was accused of assault or something.

There was a West Indian gentleman in the shop when I was ordering the gases and he was protesting because they were trying to overcharge him by a lot of money for slim line lens which he said he had not ordered and they were less than sympathetic, trying to pressure him into paying. I think the writing was on the wall for me at this point but I failed to see it.

Can you please advise what my rights are. I feel very angry on my own behalf – but from their actions a lack of understanding and ignorant attitude I can only assume they will inflict similar treatment on many more of their customers.
