I have a prepaid idea connection with number 9990661664. I get a messages pack of Rs 91 every month and got it recharged on 19th october 2011. The limit of messages was first fixed at 100 by TRAI, so IDEA changed the plan from 1000 free SMS per day to 100 free SMS per day. This change of plan was not informed to customers. I agree to take this decision as implied in order to abide by TRAI regulations. But again TRAI changed this limit from 100 to 200. Now, according to IDEA these extra 100 SMS would be charged. But, no information regarding this was provided to customers.
The customer care executive says it has been shown in news 3 days back. But, I would like to argue that news channels show only general information and not operator specific change in plans and schemes. If IDEA can send several wasteful promotional messages every day , is n’t it their responsibility to inform customers about any change in plans due to new policies. It is implied that telecom operators did not inform customers in order to take advantage of the situation, by deducting balance on excess SMS sent. Like in my case Rs 21 have been deducted today, similarly thousands of customers would have suffered a loss due to this fraudalant practice.
Why cant telecom operators adopt fair business practices and provide proper and timely information to customers?
IDEA must have made lakhs or crores of rupees by not informing customers of this change in SMS plan.
It should be credited back to respective accounts and adequate information should be disseminated.
