No service for the last 5 Days by Vodafone India

I am far away from home (Kolkata) and currently in an unknown city (travelled to Mumbai for work). Communication is as essential to me right now as it has ever been.

Last Sunday (05/11/11), my cell phone suddenly displayed a “No Network” message. I made my way to the nearest Vodafone Store (Andheri) on Tuesday. At the store, I was informed that my SIM has been damaged and I would need to get it replaced. The number, including the Plan and all other services however would remain as is.

Unfortunately, the Andheri store was unable to provide a replacement and requested me to go to their Santa Cruz outlet. In the middle of the week, I traveled the width of a strange city and located the Santa Cruz store on Wednesday (09/11/11). There, after a harrowing wait of over 2 hours and incompetent customer service from the associates, I was handed a new SIM. This SIM however came with no service!!!! Only an assurance from the agents at the store, that all services would be restored within 24 hours.

It has been over 48 hours and innumerable phone calls to both the Mumbai and Kolkata service centers since then. I still have no network. No service. A constant display of “SIM Registration failed” message and uncountable holds later I still have no phone connection.

This is the fifth day of my network-less condition. My disappointment and distaste at their service knows no bounds.
